King of Wrath by Ana Huang

Let me just start off by saying - Vivian and Dante are my favourite couple from the Kings of Sin series!

Yes, I know, I might have said that for maybe a million more fictional couples, but there was just something about these two. The chemistry was just insane. All the tense jaws, longing looks and clenched fists - AAAAAAA!

For once, the female character wasn't just lying down and taking blows from the men around her. And that is true for most, if not all, women in Ana Huang's universe. Vivian was right up there with her retorts and banter.

And Mr. Russo, dear Lord. Emphasis on DEAR LORD. I feel bad for him, though - how much he tried to resist his feelings and everything, but still ended up falling hopelessly and obsessively in love with Vivian. So much so, I might just forgive him for putting vanilla ice cream and soy sauce together. It just reminded me of Nigella Lawson and her topping her ice cream with red chillies cooked in sugar syrup. VERY WEIRD.

Before I go into a tangent of how my sister and I tried making it, let's dive into the book.

Elegant. Ambitious. Well-mannered.

Vivian Lau is the perfect daughter and her family’s ticket into the highest echelons of high society.

Marrying a blue-blooded Russo means opening doors that would otherwise remain closed to her new-money family.

While the rude, elusive Dante isn't her idea of a dream partner, she agrees to their arranged marriage out of duty.

Craving his touch was never part of the plan.

Neither was the worst thing she could possibly do: fall in love with her future husband

Summary of King of Wrath by Ana Huang

Vivian Lau is a luxury event planner in New York City who is forced into an arranged marriage with the elusive billionaire and CEO of Russo Group, Dante Russo. And ladies, he is SUPER HOT.

The only reason Dante even agreed to this marriage is that Vivian's father has blackmailed him into it. For future reference, Francis Lau is a d*ck.

When Vivian moves in with Dante, his very ordered, very organized life is upended. Not only is he being backed into a corner, which he hates, but he also can't figure out his feelings for Vivian. She is smart, witty and refuses to be intimidated by him.

As they spend more time behind closed doors, Dante’s cold defenses crumble. His hostility turns into a protective, deeply possessive obsession. Vivian, too, sees the vulnerable side Dante hides from the world, including his fierce loyalty to his brother and the small acts of tenderness toward her.

The forced proximity culminates in an explosive shift from reluctant agreement to intense physical and emotional passion, with Dante realizing he is completely falling for the woman he was forced to marry, all the while planning to bring down her father.

My Review of King of Wrath by Ana Huang

If there is one thing that Ana Huang writes best, is yearning.

And Dante's yearning is so intense and so brilliantly well-written that I almost forgot how he was often just a b*tch to Vivian sometimes.

One could argue that almost all books in the Kings of Sin Series are alike, save for the minor character and background changes. Because I have read all that have come out so far.

But King of Wrath by Ana Huang takes the bag. The writing is great. The chemistry is fire. The banter and the smut are also written impeccably well. And it wasn't just that. It was the backstories and side characters as well. I noticed how parents on both sides were also assholes. Vivian's parents were narcissistic as hell, and Dante's basically abandoned him. I guess they both needed someone they could rely on but were extremely afraid of being hurt again. Maybe that's why their yearning and groveling worked out so well. I would consider this one of Ana Huang's best-written books.

I would also consider this one to be every spicy romance reader's wet dream. The obsessed, hot billionaire MMC. An equally witty, gorgeous and strong FMC. Great match. Great writing. Great chemistry.

Quotes from King of Wrath by Ana Huang

  • “How does he look at me?” Janis smiled. “Like he never wants to look away.”

  • “You can’t see the stars in New York,” Dante said. “So I brought the stars to you.”

  • “You and me, sweetheart. That’s the destination. And I’m willing to take as many steps as I need to get there.”

  • “You forget.” I pressed my fingers against her nape, forcing her to look up at me. “You’re my fiancée. Not Kai’s. Not anyone else’s. I don’t give a fuck how handsome they are or what type of accent they have. You’re mine, and no one…” I dipped my head, my lips brushing hers with each word. “Touches what’s mine.”

  • “Somehow, somewhere along the way, I’d fallen in love … Not like or lust. Love, in all its terrifying, unpredictable, unwanted glory.”
